Nick Beim: Endeavor

Nick Beim is a board member at Endeavor, which uses High-Impact Entrepreneurship to propel economic development in emerging markets. At present, Endeavor sponsors programs in Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, and Mexico. The organization is currently working to expand into 25 new markets in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East over the course of the next 10 years. Endeavor chooses to support high-impact entrepreneurs to help build thriving companies, create jobs and help these entrepreneurs to inspire others. After identifying entrepreneurs with high-impact promise, Endeavor supports them with strategic advice and access to capital to enable them to launch their business plans. After Endeavor has helped them realize their entrepreneurial dreams, they are able to give back to the world by inspiring others to similar levels of innovation and achievement, initiating a chain reaction that will speed international development.

96 percent of the companies that have received support from Endeavor since it was established in 1997 continue to operate today. On average, new business ventures in these emerging markets do not last longer than three and a half years but, with the assistance of Endeavor, entrepreneurs are tangibly transforming these developing economies, stabilizing them, and paving the way for further expansion. Endeavor utilizes rigorous search and selection processes to identify the strongest entrepreneurs. As a result of Endeavor’s efforts, over 86,000 jobs have been created, generating $2.51 billion in revenue in 2009 alone. More than 170 academic case studies have been conducted on Endeavor’s entrepreneurs, and almost 3,500 young entrepreneurs in these countries have reported being inspired by Endeavor-backed ventures. Endeavor’s accomplishments have been recognized by the World Economic Forum, World Bank, the Harvard Business School, and the Wall Street Journal.
